Understanding Tens and Ones
Numbers are like building blocks!
Just like you can build towers with blocks, numbers are built with tens and ones. A "ten" is a group of 10 ones. This helps us understand and write numbers more easily!
How to Write Numbers with Tens and Ones
1️⃣ Count how many groups of ten you have
2️⃣ Count how many extra ones you have
3️⃣ Write the number like this: (tens) tens and (ones) ones
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: How many tens and ones in 17?
Tens
1
Ones
7
17 has ten and ones.
Example 2: Build the number 24

Parent Tips 🌟
- Use real objects: Practice with groups of 10 items (like 10 crayons in a bundle) and single items to make counting tangible.
- Play number games: Say a number and ask your child to show it with their fingers (10 fingers = 1 ten, extra fingers = ones).
- Connect to daily life: Point out numbers around you (house numbers, prices) and ask how many tens and ones they contain.
